Job: Clinical Lab Assistant - Microbiology - Temporary

Location: UT-Salt Lake City
Facility: Primary Children%27s Med

Position Purpose:

This position will be responsible to perform pre-analytical and certain post-analytical aspects of specimen testing in the Microbiology Lab. This includes, but is not limited to, receiving and preparing samples into the clinical laboratory for testing and/or transport. Communicating results to appropriate personnel at certain times, follow established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens (including planting on media), understands sample requirements for tests and clearly communicates those requirements, assists the Medical Technologists by maintaining a continuous flow of properly prepared specimens for testing.



Essential Responsibilities Include:

Process specimens per written protocol
Provide useful clinical information to customers regarding patient testing results
Assist the medical technologist with routine laboratory tests and duties
Maintain a working inventory supply
Participate in quality assurance programs
Assist in the provision of orientation and training of new employees
Follow detailed instructions to operate various types of laboratory equipment, ie, centrifuge and barcode instruments
Cope with stressful situations and troubleshooting to deal with problem samples and tests.

Minimum Requirements:


High school graduate or GED


Demonstrated flexibility in workflow and good multi-tasking skills

Proficient in written and verbal English
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal relations skills
Basic computer skills
Must be comfortable working with the safe disposal of blood and body fluids


Prefered Qualifications:

Previous laboratory experience in a hospital setting
