Job: Health Unit Coordinator - ED - Primary Children%27s Medical Center

The Emergency Department (E.D.) at Primary Children's Medical Center currently has an opportunity for a Health Unit Coordinator. This position will assist in the coordination of all activities (ancillary services, admission, discharge, billing) related to the ED admission, and the care of the patient and family while in the Emergency Department. This position serves as the "control center" for all activities within the ED and many other departments.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

Update call schedule maintaining accuracy
Assist with ordering supplies from Dietary, Materials Management and other purveyors
Maintain computerized log-triage board
Accurately order all diagnostic studies
Obtain and process lab results
Ensure that appropriate information is included in patient records and charts
Answer incoming calls and pages as needed

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent
Basic computer skills i.e. MS Word, word processing, email
Experience with data entry and fax and copy machines
Must be able to type a minimum 40 WPM
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure (position is the center of activity)
Must be able to work Days, Nights, Weekends and Holidays


Preferences:

Completion of a Health Unit Coordinator course and a Medical Terminology course, or a minimum of 1 year previous hospital critical care work experience
Experience with a computerized log-triage board
