This program is a partnership between Intermountain Healthcare and Salt Lake Community College that offers students the opportunity to receive a certificate of completion to prepare to sit for the ARDMS national registry examinations in the Abdominal, Obstetric and Gynecologic, and Vascular (RVT) areas. Classes will begin Fall Semester of 2010. This is a six-semester program including summer semesters. Sixteen students will be selected for this program. The mission of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) training is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to competently and safely perform procedures required of an entry-level diagnostic medical sonographer and deliver an optimal level of patient care. The training will provide students with the knowledge to utilize problem solving, critical thinking and effective communication skills during the performance of sonographic procedures and prepare students to practice within the profession's legal and ethical boundaries. The training offers a balance of instruction in DMS and clinical experiences that assist in the development of clinical skills required for professional practice. Clinical experiences will be offered through partnerships with sonography departments in Intermountain hospitals and clinics. The training will guide students to achieve their educational goal of becoming a diagnostic medical sonographer and encourage personal and professional growth.


This program is offered through the Division of Continuing Education at Salt Lake Community College. The program will consist of on-line coursework and classroom instruction at Salt Lake Community College's Jordan campus (Approximately 90th South and Bangerter Highway). Clinical rotations will be held at various Intermountain Healthcare facilities and clinics, which may include the Ogden, Provo/Orem and Salt Lake City areas. Students will be responsible for Tuition, Books and Fees. Because it's through the Division of Continuing Education, federal financial aid isn't available, but Intermountain Healthcare's tuition reimbursement is available for Intermountain Healthcare employees meeting the tuition reimbursement eligibility requirements.

Completion of all the pre-requisite courses with at least a B or better, or completion of a two year degree in a patient care related field, or a bachelor's degree in any field.

Human Physiology BIOL 2420/2425 *



Intermediate Algebra MATH 1010 (within the last 5 years) OR CPT score of greater than or equal to 43 on the college level math section.



Communication COMM 1010 or 1020




*Please note: Biology 1170 or 1210 is a prerequisite for anatomy/physiology courses. In the fall of 2007, these two courses were combined to form BIOL 1610 (College Biology).
