Title IT Analyst I

GENERAL FUNCTION:


Works with managers, supervisors and staff to evaluate and recommend automated information technology (IT) solutions to various operational opportunities/challenges. Serves as a liaison to the corporate IT Department by performing an adjunct role in IT project feasibility analysis, project approval, and limited software and system support activities. Serves in a primary or adjunct role in software/system implementation, system administration activities, and software/system development.


REPORTING FUNCTION:


This position may report to either a supervisor, manager, or director level. This position may also receive direction and work assignments from designated individuals other than the manager or supervisor. Works closely with the IT Department.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:


Adjunct Evaluation Activities.

1. Observes work flow by active participation in different job responsibilities, meetings, QA report reviews, informal discussions with management and staff, etc. to find areas that may be improved through automation. Thorough familiarization with individual department processes, policies, and procedures is required for successful completion of these duties.

2. Documents these opportunities/challenges, collaborates with others (e.g., IT Department) and recommends possible IT solutions (Commercial-off-the-shelf or ARUP-developed) after authorization received from management or IT Analyst II personnel.

3. Assists in defining and differentiating IT 'wants' and 'needs' while collaborating with management. In other words, prioritize IT efforts based on true needs.

4. Conducts analysis on the feasibility of implementing and operating IT solutions, including possible risks and benefits, in order to facilitate an informed decision-making process.

5. Assists with generating software and system requirements by attending meetings, performing research assignments, creating consensus amongst members/groups, and partially or completely documenting requirements.

6. Reviews and corrects documented requirements and assists in obtaining other sign-offs as needed for final authorization.

7. Conducts system post-implementation analysis to determine if desired benefits have been achieved.


Adjunct/Primary Software Development Activities.

1. Once software and system requirements have been authorized, assists with design of new software and enhancements/fixes to existing software by attending meetings and performing research assignments. .

2. Crystal Report, Excel macros and similar reporting or stand-alone application programming may be performed by this position, however no database programming will be performed. See ARUP POLICY-0157 (IT: Database Proposal Policy), ARUP PRCS-0028 (IT: Database Proposal Process), and ARUP PROC-00027 (IT: Database Development Procedure).


Adjunct Validation Activities.

1. The IT Department has primary responsibilities for ensuring software/systems are compatible with ARUP IT standards and infrastructure. Individual ARUP department validation may be required for department-specific standards, functionality or complex processes. This position will provide the department-specific validation.

2. Develops test scenarios, execute s system/software through those scenarios, and documents the results. Provides development staff, vendors or other support staff with appropriate feedback on software/system problems.

3. Assists development staff, vendors or other support staff with creating workable solutions to discovered problems.


Adjunct Training Activities.

1. Supplements Institute For Learning (IFL) training or vendor training for department-specific needs by educating support staff or employees on new software or new functionality in existing software.

2. Assist IFL training team with creation of curriculum for new software.

3. Must be able to teach and interact with positions in area of responsibility.


Adjunct Support Activities.

1. Provides support for PC software and hardware when simple resolutions exist (e.g., setting changes in Excel, Word, booting the PC, printer ink cartridge replacement; etc.) When resolution is more complex and involves operating system changes, hardware part replacements or fixes, network changes (e.g., servers, LAN cards, cabling, etc.), programming or the use of complex troubleshooting tools the IT Help Desk should be contacted.

2. Assists IT support staff in troubleshooting and resolving problems by contacting IT Help Desk or other support personnel (e.g., IT Interface Support) with detailed examples of the issue; being physically present when support work is in

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


A. Education/Credentials

1. Required High School diploma

2. Prefer B.S. degree in laboratory science, computer science or information systems, may substitute for 4+ years of equivalent experience.


B. Experience and Technical Qualifications

1. Required, minimum two years clinical laboratory experience in test analysis, specimen collection, specimen accessioning, specimen preparation, quality assurance; or, two years IT analytical experience.

2. Preferred, minimum two years PC computer related experience, training, testing, troubleshooting and communications.


C. Background, Attributes, Characteristics

1. Maintains confidentiality and a positive professional attitude at all times.

3. Maintains effective communications and good working relationships with all members of department, other departments including support groups such as the IT Department.

8. Ability to work well with clients, both internal and external, vendors and with persons at all levels of management.

D. Special Demands

1. Involves judgement in planning work, assessing results, analyzing information, solving problems and taking or recommending actions.

2. Must be adaptable to changes in the work environment, which occur regularly. IT priorities, development, tasks and projects are subject to change.

3. Must be ready to accept that project direction may be changed or cancelled at any time during the process. Business needs guide these decisions.

4. Must be adaptable to rapidly changing technologies and be willing to learn from books and training as it can be provided.
