ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the R & d laboratory. Ensures proper handling of all specimens received at and prepares specimens for laboratory testing. Duties include such functions as data handling and entry, labeling, sorting and delivery of samples. Performance of selected analytical processes; answering the telephone; performance and documentation of quality control and equipment maintenance; minor problem solving, and other duties as assigned.


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Two or more years of relevant full-time clinical laboratory experience appropriate to the section or as a Technician Trainee, participated in a program of specialized training.


EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Two or more years of relevant full-time clinical laboratory experience. Previous data entry experience. College level courses in medical terminology and other scientific courses.


Must have a basic science background and computer skills. Will be providing general laboratory and clerical support.

EDUCATION REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent.


EDUCATION PREFERRED: Upper level (college) classes in biology or related life sciences. Lab Assistant Training.


PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must communicate well in English and have clear speech. Fine motor coordination, good visual acuity including color perception. Ability to work overtime. Physical abilities include walking, ability to lift 20 to 40 pounds over your head, standing, and bending. Typing (computer data entry). Ability to wear gloves. Ability to work well under stress. Ability to follow directions and procedures as required.
