GENERAL FUNCTION:

Ensures compliance of the most current requirements of all regulatory, certifying, licensing, and accrediting bodies pertaining to ARUP's compliance to new and existing regulations. Performs internal audits. Participates in mock inspections. Participates in the formulation and execution of new corporate policy, process and procedure. Provides regulatory training for ARUP employees.


REPORTING FUNCTION:


The position reports to the Assistant Director of Quality and Compliance. Position works closely with the Laboratory Director, Director of Quality and Compliance, Medical Directors, Group Managers, Technical Supervisors, Regulatory Affairs Coordinator, and the Quality and Compliance team.


REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:


1. Gains and maintains knowledge of current requirements of federal, state, local governments and other accrediting and licensure bodies, specifically in regards to ARUP Corporate implementation and compliance to those regulations affecting global quality and compliance processes (e.g. ISO, HIPAA). Provides regulatory resource to all ARUP departments as required.

2. Develops/reviews processes to ensure ARUP's compliance with new and existing corporate regulatory compliance requirements. Such processes may include: development/review of written policies and procedures, internal and external audits, document control.

3. Develops/maintains standardized document control processes. Initiates and facilitates the adoption of these processes throughout all ARUP departments.

4. Prepares audit tools in conjunction with other Quality and Compliance Coordinators. Performs audits, mock inspections and surveys as assigned. Prepares written and verbal reviews of all audits.

5. Develops/maintains off-site record storage as required.

6. Develops/maintains competency for assigned and other specific quality and compliance coordinator position descriptions as assigned. Acts as back up to other compliance coordinators as needed. Reporting mechanisms including Internet e-mail, fax, hard copy (mail), telephone.

7. Develops/maintains competency for the delivery and coordination of proficiency testing to ARUP departments. Acts as back up to Proficiency Testing Coordinator as needed.

8. Writes and maintains current procedures as required for areas of responsibility.

9. Provides timely response to all ARUP departmental requests and issues within scope of responsibility.

10. Develops/maintains documentation of position activities. Develops/creates/utilizes reports as requested.

11. Meets regularly with the Asst. Director of Quality and Compliance.

12. Participates in departmental administration/QA meetings as assigned.

13. Participates in the provision of regulatory support for departmental processes involving privacy and regulatory compliance issues.

14. Participates in strategic planning and budget preparation for the Quality & Compliance department as assigned.

15. Participates in CQI process as a QI team member or Trainer/Facilitator as requested.

16. Reviews or produces, as assigned, ARUP Laboratory policies, Standard Operating Procedures and documents for compliance.

17. Participates in education of ARUP staff and clients as assigned.

18. Attends and represents ARUP in national meetings as assigned. Participates in other continuing education opportunities as afforded.

19. Attends and participates in the Quality & Compliance Department staff meetings. Works positively as a member of the department. Reports productivity and departmental measures.

16. Complies with all ARUP policies and procedures, including safety and biohazard regulations.

18. Works independently, demonstrates ability to organize and prioritize.

19. Demonstrates sophisticated problem solving analysis.

20. Maintains order of work area, equipment and files. Inventories and initiates orders of needed supplies.

21. Demonstrates a positive attitude.

22. Maintains strict confidence and security or all information. Maintains high ethical standards.

24. Demonstrates professional demeanor in personal appearance and behavior in all work-related interactions inside and outside the organization.

25. Other duties as assigned. ARUP retains the right to add to or change the duties of this position at any time.


Ensures ARUP's compliance with the most current requirements of all regulatory, certifying, licensing, and accrediting bodies, particularly with an emphasis in supporting corporate Privacy initiatives.

Skills / Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


Education required:

MS/BS/BA in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biological science. Medical Technologists also require MT certification.



Minimum curriculum for categorical applicants include: 16 semester hours of chemistry, which include at least 6 semester hours in inorganic chemistry and are acceptable toward a major in chemistry; 16 semester hours of biology which are pertinent to the medical sciences including courses in medical or pathogenic microbiology or bacteriology that are acceptable toward a major in the biological sciences; and 3 semester hours of math.


Certifications required:

Medical Technologist (ASCP) or equivalent for Medical Technologists. Categorical certification required for Technologist II.


Experience required:

* 4 years recent experience in Clinical Laboratory Science or related laboratory background

* Good personal computer skills including ability to use effectively all the programs in the Microsoft Office Suite.

* Ability to type at least 30 words per minute; preferably 50


Experience preferred:

* Experience at ARUP in a technical section.

* Knowledge of cGMP, CLIA, CAP, JCAHO requirements.

* Knowledge of QA/CQI.

* Experience with LIS

* Understands relational database concepts


Physical and other requirements:

* Clear speech and the ability to communicate effectively in English by both the written and spoken word

* Ability to organize and complete by deadlines duties and assignments

* Ability to work under pressure and work overtime

* Ability to move around the building

* Ability to distinguish a difference in colors
